Post Title: Maths Support Teacher
Section: Primary
Accountable to: SDS Coordinator
Main Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the Mathematics support programme
- Suggest resources for purchase to support the Mathematics support programme
- Support the adaptation and implementation of intervention programmes throughout the Primary School
- Research and identify proven methodologies and materials (print and digital)
- Be a part of the Student Development Services Department and provide relevant input
Teaching & Learning:
- Plan and facilitate lessons to support the mathematics learning of students in small groups and individually, depending on student needs
- Support those struggling with mathematics in class
- Assess students’ strengths and weaknesses in their knowledge, understanding and application of mathematical concepts
- Develop, in conjunction with the Student Development Service, Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for identified students
- Contribute to the targets of students with additional mathematics needs
- Conduct and analyse diagnostic tests of students
Teacher Support for High and Low Level Students in Mathematics:
- Support teachers with ideas and strategies to use in classroom to support students with Mathematics
- Suggest strategies that teachers can use to engage and enhance learning of mathematics across the curriculum
- Provide quarterly feedback to teachers about the mathematical development of students in their classes
- Plan and present staff Professional Development sessions in alignment with the School’s needs
- Plan and team-teach with colleagues in order to develop expertise in meeting the mathematical learning needs of multilingual children
Parents and External Professionals:
- Meet with parents to discuss the progress of their child, and inform them of suitable strategies to use at home
- Prepare reports for external professionals, such as educational psychologists
- Participate in meetings with external professionals
- Devise and enact strategies to ensure that parents and carers understand the school’s approach to learning and teaching in relation to mathematics support and can participate as key partners within this context
