"MES DE LA PATRIA” :

 The colours of the national flag are starting to appear in the Primary School corridors.  The students are working enthusiastically and decorating the notice-boards with beautiful designs and symbols.  Civic week will be celebrated with three “Actos Cívicos” in Primary School on Friday 10th, Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th September.

 As is now traditional, on the 14th September the children can come to school dressed in typical costumes and a delicious lunch will be served.  To complement the celebrations, there will be marimba music during the second break.

PRIMARY 4 …. wishes to thank Mr. Federico Bolaños, father of Gabriel Bolaños Senior 2, for the interesting conference that he shared with us on World War II.  We really learned a lot!

Bulletin #23, 27th August 2010 Print E-mail

BARVA HOUSE GO UNDERGROUND:

The first of Senior 4 Bronze qualifying expeditions took place last weekend.  They went to the Barra Honda National Park in Guanacaste.  First to go were the defending outdoor champions Barva.  After a strenuous hike over the hills and through the dry forest on the Saturday they made camp in the forest.  The students experienced the Terciopelo cave on the 2nd day and learnt about limestone landscapes and were guided through the forest by local experts.  The expedition went well and all successfully completed the expedition section of the award; demonstrating, navigation skills, teamwork and campcraft.  Barva house showed why they are champions and gained a high points tally in this 2nd semester competition.  On completion of all four house expeditions, the houses will be set a team quiz on limestone landscapes and tropical dry forests.  The students took advantage of the visit to ask the guides many questions to help them gain maximum points.

This week's trip will see Irazú House take on the challenge of this beautiful area.  Remember to bring the bugs spray.

Bulletin #22, 20th August 2010 Print E-mail

IB AND IGCSE MOCK EXAMS … these internal exams begin on Monday 23rd August for Senior 5 and Senior 7.  Normal classes for these two groups will be suspended for the two weeks of the exams.

  SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT AND LST:

 Last Thursday, Senior 3A students carried out social work at the “Jesús, María y José” Children’s Home. The students prepared a snack, games and activities that they shared with the children during the morning.  We thank all students, teachers and mentors (Lucía Santiago and Ninoska Christensen) that made this activity possible.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:

The Music Department congratulates Raquel Herrera and Daniela Pérez on their excellent IB Music Recital last Tuesday in the school auditorium.  

 

 

 

 Congratulations!    

 

 

Manuel Nivia is a recently graduated student of the British School of CR who was in the first group to do the IB program in music.  He was granted a scholarship to study abroad in the Arab Emirates to pursue a music career specializing in guitar performance.  He will be performing guitar in his farewell recital rendering classics of the guitar as well as his own compositions on Friday 19th of August at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.

PRIMARY BOOK WEEK:

We are pleased to inform you that our annual Primary Book Week was a fantastic success!  The children thoroughly enjoyed a wide range of exciting activities taking place throughout the Primary section including ‘Story Time’ in the Primary Library, ‘Mystery Readers’ visiting each classroom and a thrilling competition giving each child the opportunity to win a fantastic Book Week Prize.  Book Week ended on a high note with ‘Character Dress-Up’.  The children looked wonderful in their costumes and thoroughly enjoyed our special Book Week Assembly presented by talented teachers.  We want to thank you for your support and participation; we hope you will join us next year!  

 During Book Week the Primary Spanish department collected 615 books which will be donated to a needy School.  Thank you to parents and students for your generosity.

SENIOR UNIFORM:

Secondary School students are reminded that they must wear correct School uniform, especially shoes.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT:

Next Wednesday 11th of August there will be an initial meeting to start planning the musical “ Little Shop of Horrors”.   If you want to participate please come to the music room at 12:30pm.  Thank you.

You are all invited to come to the IB Music Recital for Senior 7 in the Auditorium of the School … next Tuesday, 10th of August at 6:30pm.
