The Administration chose, as the legend on the school badge, the words "TRUTH and KNOWLEDGE". This was actually condensed from a quote by John F. Kennedy "The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth". MISSION - The British School of Costa Rica is dedicated to serving the Costa Rican Community and the International Community resident in Costa Rica by offering an excellent, English/Spanish bilingual education. The School shall strive to achieve "all-round excellence" on behalf of its students, dedicating itself to educating the "whole student" by helping each one to fulfil their potential academically, morally and aesthetically; as well as promoting their healthy physical and emotional development. AIMS - The School shall strive to produce graduates who will be honest, mature and productive citizens of the world community possessing the following characteristics. They:
The School shall strive for high academic standards and, whilst the School will support and help students to manage their learning difficulties by means of Learning Support Teams and special language classes, it cannot accept nor retain students with severe learning difficulties. Although the strongest cultural influences within the School are British and Costa Rican, the School shall promote the development of Costa Rican/British biculturism only so far it nurtures a predisposition towards internationalism. The School shall take into special consideration the fact that the majority of the student body is Costa Rican and, whilst emphasising international understanding, it will facilitate the successful integration of students into Costa Rican Society by permitting: i) all students to develop an understanding and appreciation of Costa Rican language and culture; ii) all Costa Rican students to be exposed to the normal Costa Rican educational and cultural influences through the integration of the official Costa Rican programmes of Español and Estudios Sociales at all grade levels and iii) all Costa Rican students to obtain the official, national educational qualifications in parallel with the international programmes of the International Primary Curriculum, IGCSE and IB programmes. |
