School Philosophy and Mission |
|
The Administration chose, as the legend on the school badge, the words "TRUTH and KNOWLEDGE". This was actually condensed from a quote by John F. Kennedy "The goal of education is the advancement of knowledge and the dissemination of truth". MISSION - The British School of Costa Rica is dedicated to serving the Costa Rican Community and the International Community resident in Costa Rica by offering an excellent, English/Spanish bilingual education. The School shall strive to achieve "all-round excellence" on behalf of its students, dedicating itself to educating the "whole student" by helping each one to fulfil their potential academically, morally and aesthetically; as well as promoting their healthy physical and emotional development. AIMS - The School shall strive to produce graduates who will be honest, mature and productive citizens of the world community possessing the following characteristics. They: - are completely English/Spanish bilingual and can work and study in both languages and cultures with facility;
- possess a highly developed sense of international understanding and environmental awareness; are self-confident, self-reliant and sensible persons possessing a realistic appreciation of their own abilities and limitations;
- are developing realistic goals and values in life and that they possess the knowledge, abilities and strategies to achieve those goals

ACHIEVEMENT OF AIMS - In order to develop all-round excellence and international understanding, the School shall prepare its students so that eventually they are able to participate productively in the programmes of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) in 9th and 10th grades and the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 11th and 12th grades. In addition to the academic programme, a variety of means will be used in order to achieve the goals of developing all-round excellence and of educating the "whole student". Depending upon the grade level, these may include: the “Duke of Edinburgh's International Award Scheme”, the “CAS” programme of the IB Diploma programme”, the “Philosophy for Children” programme, a House System, an extensive extra-curricula programme and a “Form Period” system incorporating a Personal and Social Education (PSE) programme. |
