Overseas Contracts

We will require for FEBRUARY 2011, qualified and experienced teachers in the following areas.

All these positions will be announced in the TES in early September and we will not be taking up references until then ... when schools are back in session.  The closing date for applications will (probably) be mid-September.

1.    Economics:   to teach  IGCSE and IB Economics programmes.

2.    English :   to teach all Secondary levels including IGCSE English (as a First Language) and IB Literature programmes.  This not an EFL or ESL teaching position;  qualifications for and experience of teaching English Literature are required.

3.    English :  Head of Department position, with similar teaching responsibilities as above, but on a reduced timetable.

4.  Chemistry :  to teach "General" Science at lower Secondary levels, Chemistry within the IGSCE Coordinated Science programme and IB Chemistry course.

For all above positions .... i)  previous experience of teaching the corresponding IGCSE and IB courses (or O-level, AP or A-level equivalents) would be a requirement and ii)  Previous experience of working overseas would be an advantage.

IN GENERAL:   refer to the "Contract Terms and Conditions" section below.

N.B.  Due to restrictions imposed by the IOM Selective Migration programme and certain Costa Rican Immigration requirements; preference will be given to applicants whose nationality qualifies them to receive an initial 90-day visa UPON ENTRY to Costa Rica and who are also presently located in (or returning to) a country where there is a Costa Rican Consulate.  These restrictions mean that usually we can only offer overseas contracts to holders of U.K., European, USA, Canadian or Australian passports.  FYI, see the list of restricted countries ...

Contract Terms and Conditions
PLEASE NOTE: Most terms and conditions of service indicated below for overseas contracted teachers would NOT apply to locally contracted teachers.

RESUME OF TERMS/CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT - 2010

I)   At present, Teachers are contracted under the auspices of the "Selective Migration" programme of the International Organisation for Migrations (IOM) based in Geneva.  This greatly facilitates the obtaining of residency/permission to work as a Teacher at the School up to a maximum of four years.  If Teachers cannot be included in the IOM programme, then they are contracted directly as salaried employees.  We are presently seeking a better, direct agreement with Immigration.
