The British School of Costa Rica

Advisory Council
The Advisory Council of the British School of Costa Rica was founded in 2001, primarily as a response to the foreseen requirements of the CIS/NEASC accreditation process to have a separation of the governance and the management aspects of the School.  The restructuring involved Mr. Trevor Davies being appointed Headmaster (Director) of the school with responsibility for all academic affairs supported by Susan Bird as Director of Primary School.  David and Liliana and Lloyd continued as Directors General of the school with David Lloyd having overall responsibility for finance and building.

The members of the Advisory Council were appointed initially by invitation from the Directors General, later by approval of the members of the Council: its role was never intended to be “representative”, only that it provides sound, objective advice.  The mission statement of Advisory Council is provided in more detail below, but in general terms it has a role to advise the Directors General on matters pertaining to the School’s mission, philosophy and policies.   It would also act as a “crisis management committee” should the need ever arise.

At approximately the same time, a new Parents’ Representative Committee (PRC) was formed to represent parents’ interests and act as a channel of communication with the Administration of the school.  Unfortunately, this committee has since disbanded.

At present, the members of the Advisory Council are:

Lic. Marvin Matthews, Honorary Member, Former Vice-Minister of Education, currently Legal Council to the Association of Private Schools and the Ministry of Education.
MSc. Esteban A. Chacon, Lawyer, the School's Legal Council since 1991.
Lic. Noe Kawer, Lawyer.
Lic. Anelena Pacheco, Lawyer, ex-Parent of the School.
Mrs. Christina Feeny, Journalist, ex-teacher and now parent of the School.
Sra. Claudia Quiros de Solis, Company Manager, parent of the School.
Mr. Donald Mora, Businessman, Computer systems / Communications expert, parent of the School.
